Dear Momauguin Families,
Reminder: There will be NO SCHOOL for students this Friday, March 6th. It is a Professional Development Day for teachers and staff.
We have an exciting and busy few weeks ahead!
Read Across America Week begins tomorrow!
Please see the daily themes listed below and encourage your child to participate. We look forward to celebrating the joy of reading together all week long.
Reading at home is essential to your child’s academic success. Research shows that students who read at home for at least 20 minutes each day are exposed to approximately 1.8 million words per year, significantly strengthening vocabulary, comprehension, and overall academic performance. Even a few minutes of daily reading makes a meaningful difference.
You can also find a recently shared communication from the Connecticut State Department of Education with helpful suggestions for partnering with schools and encouraging reading at home. Together, we can foster a lifelong love of reading.
Join us this Thursday for a FREE Family Fun Literacy Mystery Night – Read Like a Detective! It will be 5:30–7:30 PM in the Momauguin Gym. Dinner will be served! Please return your RSVP form by Tuesday, 3/3/26. If you misplaced the form, simply reply to this message with the number of adults and children attending. We hope to see many of our families there for an evening of reading, mystery, and fun!
The PTO Butter Braid Fundraiser begins tomorrow, March 2. Please be on the lookout for the flyer coming home with your child. Thank you in advance for supporting our PTO and the wonderful opportunities they provide for our students.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming events!
In partnership,
Julie Oca Church

This is an opportunity to share your insights- helping identify statewide priorities, strengths, and needs across the literacy continuum. Families, caregivers, educators, administrators, and support services personnel are invited to participate in the Statewide Literacy Survey.
Please complete the survey by March 23, 2026.
|
Families, caregivers, educators, administrators, and support staff are invited to upcoming focus groups on Scientific Research‑Based Interventions (SRBI) and Multi‑Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS). The Superintendent's Spring Reading Challenge has begun.
Please record the books your child reads and return Reading Logs to school as requested by the classroom teacher. Some classes have weekly logs and others are collected monthly. We love to celebrate their hard work and participation.
Spring Reading Challenge highlights:
- Students will read and track books through May 1, 2026.
- Students will submit their total number of books read.
- During the month of May, the Superintendent will announce student winners and award a grade-level class trophy.
- The classroom in each grade level across the district that reads the most books will earn an Ice Cream Social (dates to be determined).
Thank you for your continued partnership in encouraging reading at home. We are proud of our readers and look forward to another exciting challenge this spring.
